Our
North London centre has recently undertaken an exclusive wrap project of four Fiat 500 cars using four original designs from renowned contemporary artist Tracey Emin. In a feat that has quite literally taken Tracey’s work out of the gallery and onto the street, the cars have become mobile canvases – and Emin has created a unique ‘moving’ exhibition.
Centre manager Scott Coleman explains, “We were really excited to have the chance to work on this project – particularly as we were bringing to life Tracey Emin’s designs, and also due to the fact that we had an exclusive sneak preview of the brilliant new Fiat 500.”
The fleet of four Tracey Emin illustrated Fiat 500 cars have individually been named as:
· You go around me
· Love is Love
· Dark Dark Dark
· I told you not to
and were commissioned by Fiat to form part of the Frieze Art Festival which celebrates contemporary art in
London during October 2007.
Tracey says:
“I really enjoyed working on the Fiat 500, which I refer to as the ‘mouse car’. It was tempting to make them even more super-cute, but instead decided to give them an edge.”
Following the London showings, one car in this series has been auctioned at the Contemporary Art Auction at Phillips de Pury in
Victoria . Selling for an incredible £42,000, proceeds from the sale will go to Emin’s chosen charity, PEAS – to raise funds for a school library in
Uganda . Additional funds will also help establish ongoing Fiat Art Projects in
London . The project has been curated by Artwise (www.artwisecurators.com) and Beat Capital (www.beatcapital.com).
The new Fiat 500s will have their official launch in
UK in Jan ’08.
